So what you’re saying is that kids these days will never understand the feeling of joy when you finally get the right file from limewire?

Recorded music is for posers

At least there was no Autotune back then.

What about recorded anti-music

I kneel when the anti-flag is brought out for the anti-anthem

Kerchunk has plays 2 tracks at once. Dammit not again.

My kids find cassettes quaint. But we do have a 45 jukebox in the living room.

Hey look Apples still sells an iPod!
https://www.apple.com/ipod-touch/
Granted, it’s more of a smartphone for people who don’t want to spend money on a data plan, but I’m still surprised it exists vs. just telling those people to buy an unlocked refurbished iPhone 6 or something.

They will also not know the joy of infecting your PC while using limewire.

I’m happy to be the last of those kids. :D I remember back in 2005 or so wanting to download the Crazy Frog Axel F song on Limewire and while I never found the original, I found a sick remix that I still have in my music library today.

Ah, that’s why you used that iMac G3.

Crazy frog reminds me of this:
I used limewire up until 2009, for some reason.

In my relatively short lifespan so far we’ve gone from cassettes and VHS, to CDs and DVDs, to MP3s and Blu-ray, to phones and streaming and subscription services.

Let’s see, that’s a ~5 year old design that they just keep selling? Probably will be obsoleted by the next major iOS update...

Nice. I really need to buy a record player for my kids. I’ve got a very small vinyl collection that never gets used , but I wouldn’t mind adding a few here and there.
The old van we rode around in as kids had an 8-track (I don’t think it ever worked, though).

Holy crap I remember this video, freewebs glory and all!

A few years ago my kids found my CD case. They’ve always known what records are, but the CDs blew their minds. They’re also very intrigued by my Mallrats VHS tape.

I need to get some more 8 tracks for my car. Not really for the music, but more to just have them.

Mmmm, graphite-flavored!
I have that computer still.

I’m just sad that everything is mechanically arranged today to NOT allow for album play. It’s like an afterthought, since the world has switched to single tracks. A shame, really, since good artists will have a consistent style or theme all throughout their album. That’s part of the point of an album.
I remember getting mad when moving from CD to mp3 and realizing it would force silence between the tracks and not allow a smooth transition.
![]() 10/30/2018 at 11:39 |

I still use two iPods! One old clip one for running, one for car trips because a 16gb iPhone doesn’t hold music.

In-dash 8 Track as state of the art car audio would have been quite a time to be alive.

We had it until a couple years ago. Got it in 2001, or something like that.

Yup. I still generally buy albums, or at least sample the whole thing first before making a decision.

Yes. Yes, you do.
![]() 10/30/2018 at 11:45 |

*1-99 tracks.
#pedant
#technicallycorrectisthebestkindofcorrect
Also, on CD’s negative time exists (time before start of CD), so it might best be described as 0-99 +1 tracks, but that would require a lot of technical descriptions and footnotes.
![]() 10/30/2018 at 11:48 |

Nice. Those are some short songs in CDA format!
![]() 10/30/2018 at 11:49 |

And if you buy from Amazon, you generally get a free ripped copy that goes right into your Prime library, as well. Best of both worlds.
I can’t imagine driving around with the kids and NOT having CD with a cohesive 10+ songs to keep playing to entertain them. If I had to search for a track between every song, we’d probably be dead by now :D
My wife commented yesterday that she still thinks my old CD arrangement (10 changer in the trunk + 1 in the dash) was the pinnacle of music storage for the car. What it lacked in pure size, it made up for in modularity and ease of use.

Yup - will be interesting to see what the next 5 years brings. Neural implants with direct access to satellite-fed streaming services that play the music you want directly to your auditory cortex as soon as you think about wanting to hear it?

Most are placeholders, see NIN’s Broken, or countless others. For negative time formats, the X-Files soundtrack had a hidden track before the start of the CD (you had to rewind from the beginning of the CD).
I am always curious to know just how many CD’s have these hidden tracks. I’ve only ever found one (Sister Machine Gun’s Burn had a cover of The Doors ‘ Strange Days’ before track one).

That’s exactly what I’ve done for the past several years. Even though I’m a Mac/iPhone guy, I’ve never bought music off iTunes.
The tiny thumb drive permanently placed in your car’s USB port with a massive music collection is pretty great. Easy to play an album this way.

I, too, am an old. I’ve been enjoying digging out my old cassettes because the 911 has a period nice Alpine tape deck and speakers. Led Zeppelin II is in now, next up is Dire Straits Love Over Gol d. Kinda fun, part of the throwback experience for me.

YES! Please make this part of your future write-up.

Songs in the key of X is the one.

Busy, awesome, not so awesome, and then more awesome.
Loving my FiST like no car before. Makes me smile every day. Saw NIN 5 times this year (Vegas x3 and Phoenix x2, including the tour opener where they played ALL of Broken for the first time ever).

Less Than Jake's Losing Streak has a hidden story before the first track.

Nope. I didn’t own a television until a few years ago and by that time everything was streaming or could be downloaded onto a hard drive.

You got it :) I have little video idea that starts with the tape deck , if I can figure out how to do it.
